In general, fonts are a separate resource that need to be downloaded by the browser before any text is rendered, which impacts a store's overall performance. To make the theme more performant, system fonts that are already installed on the customers computer can be used by merchants that choose fonts from the System fonts category of the Shopify font library.
Most of these fonts are installed and enabled automatically. Others can be downloaded using Font Book, which is in your Applications folder. Fonts that can be downloaded appear dimmed in Font Book.

Now, we can use them easily enough when it comes to building our HTMLand CSS, but for now we need to grab them and put them on our own systemin order to use them in our design. We can do that here at Google, or wecan head over to another service, such as FontSquirrel, where wecan grab the fonts for download.
